Clubhouse I is the home of a lobby, a ballroom with dance floor, an outdoor swimming pool, three restaurants, several classrooms, a woodwork shop, a lending library, a travel office, along with various clubs and organizations. Outdoor facilities include shuffleboard, lawn bowls, bocce ball, an outdoor swimming pool, and lanai area.   Facilities can be reserved, for a fee, when regular events are not scheduled. Education and Recreation Department

The Education and Recreation Department (E&R) is located in Clubhouse I, with a subsidiary office in Clubhouse II.   The objective of the E&R Department is to offer programs and manage facilities for the cultural, intellectual, physical and social enjoyment of all residents.

The E&R Office distributes a community handbook and organization contact list to all new residents, which provides an introduction to the community, its facilities, and its rich opportunities for pleasant living and personal development.   The information is useful in helping each newcomer determine where and how he or she may participate in community life.   Welcome coffees are held to provide a more personalized introduction.

The following information is intended to provide our residents with knowledge of facilities and activities available in Leisure World.   Copies of established rules and policies of the E&R Office (approved by the Board of Directors of Leisure World) are available in the E&R Offices, upon request.

Education

Many courses are offered throughout the year. Classes, operated on a self-sustaining basis, depend upon the interest and participation of the residents and are organized to allow for varying degrees of skill.   Classes may include: art, bridge, ceramics, dancing, foreign languages, numerous exercise classes, dramatics, water classes, and religious studies.

Recreation

Recreation facilities and activities under the supervision of the E&R Office include swimming, lawn bowls, tennis, shuffleboard, billiards, and bocce ball. Specialists provide instruction and guidance in some area.

Special Events

Entertainment and educational programs featuring outstanding performing artists and lecturers are scheduled throughout the year.   Holiday events, activities, and parties are also planned.

Social Activities

The E&R Office approves and assists in coordinating social, service, and fraternal organizations. A list of existing clubs, including a contact person and telephone number (updated regularly), is available to residents in the E&R Office.

Resident Clubs and Organizations

The community is noted for many organized groups. Both social clubs and service groups meet on a regular basis, for the enjoyment of residents and the benefit of the community.

There are many opportunities for residents to volunteer time and assist within groups and organizations, according to their interests. Volunteers reap the rewards of friends, neighbors, and club members while contributing to the vitality of the community. The Leisure World News

The Leisure World News (LWN) is the Leisure World community newspaper. The LWN and closed circuit television are the official means of communicating information to residents of Leisure World. The LWN is published the first and third Tuesday of each month and delivered by volunteers to our residents. Resident groups and organizations submit articles. The LWN is self-supporting, and made possible by revenue from advertisements. Please be advised, that article and advertisement conditions may apply.

The Closed Circuit TV System

A calendar of events, emergency information, and items of interest to the Community are broadcast daily over the Closed Circuit TV system. The Inter-Faith services are broadcasted weekly. For further information on the Closed Circuit TV system, please call the E&R Office at 301-598-1300.

Voting Precincts

There are two voting precincts in the Community clubhouses for your convenience on election days.

Eyre Travel Office

Eyre at Leisure World Travel Office, located in Clubhouse I, is a department of Eyre Bus, Tour & Travel . They offer a full service travel agency that specializes in airline reservations, cruises, group tours, vacation packages, hotel accommodations, and auto rental. They also plan a variety of day and overnight excursions for Leisure World residents and their guests. Information on upcoming trips can be found in the Leisure World News , the Travel Office Page of the Leisure World Web site (Travel Page on LWMC website ) or by calling them directly at 301 598-1599.

Library

Located in the foyer of Clubhouse I, A lending library houses an assortment of books for the reading-lovers of our community. They offer non-fiction and fiction books, at your choice of paper or hard back covers (please refer to the lending terms below), along with a variety of resources in audio and video. As an added service, the library also sells inexpensive greeting cards for any occasion. The library is organized and run by dedicated LW residents, who have volunteered to join the Library Guild. Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to sign up in the Library. For additional information, please visit the volunteers in the Library or contact them during the hours of operation at 301-598-1390. Garden Area

During the growing season, the garden area is open from sunrise to sunset. Annual applications and information are available in the E&R Office in Clubhouse I each fall for the following spring. For further information on the Garden area, please call the E&R Office at 301-598-1300.

Outside Swimming Pool

Weather permitting, the outdoor pool is open from Memorial Day weekend (May) through Labor Day, and then on a week to week basis in September. Resident guests, adults and/or children, are welcome. All children (ages 4 through 15), must be accompanied by an adult in swimwear. Residents must have an appropriate pool pass to enter the pool. Guests also must have an appropriate pool pass and be signed in by a resident, to enter the pool. Pool Passes can be purchased at either the E&R Offices or the swimming pools (Please refer to the schedule of fees below). Residents and guests are expected to aide by the pool rules and regulations established for their own safety. Copies of the pool rules and regulations are available in the E&R Offices of both clubhouses.

During inclement weather, residents should check the closed circuit TV channel for updates on openings and closings. In the event of severe weather (i.e. lightening or thunder), the pool will be closed and the deck cleared until such weather has passed.
